An Introduction to
Gamma Knife Treatment

The video above provides an overview of Gamma Knife and what you can expect during a Gamma Knife procedure:

Gamma Knife® is a type of stereotactic radiosurgery. Although it may sound like surgery – it isn’t. Rather, it is a type of radiation therapy that delivers beams of high-dose radiation from multiple angles to precisely target and destroy tumors.

At the Swedish Radiosurgery Center in Seattle, our radiosurgery team uses Gamma Knife to treat cancerous and noncancerous tumors in the brain, head and neck. Gamma Knife may also used to treat neurological conditions, such as arteriovenous malformations, essential tremor and trigeminal neuralgia.

With Gamma Knife, there is no scalpel, no general anesthesia and no hospital stay. Patients usually wear street clothes during their treatments and return to their normal activities when their treatments have been completed.
